Meet Jules
I love sea swimming cycling and running the wild Cornish coast paths and on rainy days I read and sew making pretty useful things.
I was taught to sew by my wonderful Ma and went on to make my School Dance Dress - a proper prom dress of the 80’s with a boned bodice in glorious Royal Blue taffeta silk. My 21st birthday present was a sewing machine that lasted well into my 40’s. I spent my university years in Liberty’s rummage room coming away a trunk full of beautiful fabrics an interesting selection of homemade outfits and luckily a degree in Optometry.
Over the years I have made bridesmaid dresses, christening robes, fancy dress costumes and even a suit for an interview. As my children have grown their needs have changed to outfits they have seen on instagram that just had to be made, reusable make up wipes and even my own daughters prom dress
Bags and bunting were my thing when i first began selling, but once lockdown hit our lives changed and the UK were furloughed I became part of the Cornwall team of sewers making Scrubs for the NHS. We were lucky in Cornwall - the sun shone and we could go outside and so I sewed and swam. As summer turned to Autumn the sea got colder but we all still swam. The beaches swarmed with big black branded matching changing robes. And so fabric was sourced, I played with designs, details, functionality and fastenings and the Blou Robe was born.
